Comedian Chelsea Handler has never been to shy away from critics or conflict in both her professional and personal life. We've seen her public persona and laughed heartily as she talked about her past, present and Britney Spears nether regions.

You would think My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands would simply be another satirical look at her life. A series of half-truths peppered bold faced lies, but Handler shirks the Hollywood portrayal of her life for the gritty and sometimes bittersweet honesty of a woman who has seen the bottom and came back.

The book is as you might expect a look at some of Handler's many dalliances in her life. She details awkward and sometimes frightening encounters of real experiences in her life. Handler has never had qualms about talking about her private life, especially if it created a laugh, but this book has its fair share of moments when you can't help but feel a pang of pity.

I don't think anyone that doesn't have a personal relationship with Handler knows the real her. I can't help but think behind that rough sarcastic exterior is someone who is very sad and no amount of professional success can take that away. When you read her book, you are taking a quick peak into her life and its easy to get lost in the witty language and strange encounters, but we also get a little peak behind the women behind the curtain.
